Overview
Some card types and payment methods don't support pre-authorisations and can only process a sale. In Oracle OPERA v5 these are set up as Pay Only payment types — for example debit cards, virtual credit cards, Alipay or WeChat Pay. This article explains how to settle a bill with a Pay Only payment type through Juno and the Oracle Payment Interface (OPI).

| Version | OPERA v5 |

What you'll achieve
After completing these steps, the payment is processed as a sale and posted in OPERA, without a pre-authorisation.
Before you start
- The Pay Only payment types you need must be set up for your property. Agree which ones you need during implementation.
- To use a payment device, the Chip & Pin Device Available check box must be selected for your workstation in OPERA (Configuration > Setup > Workstations).
Settle with a Pay Only payment type
Always select the specific Pay Only payment type for the card or method the guest is using.
- From the OPERA menu, select Front Desk > In House Guests.
- Search for and open the reservation.
- Select Options > Billing.
- If payment is due, the total bill amount appears on the payment screen. If the guest wants to pay only part of the bill with this method, enter the amount being paid.
- Select the Pay Only payment code for the guest's card or payment method.
- Select the OPERA Payment Widget icon next to the Credit Card Number field.
- Leave the card fields empty and select OK. This activates the payment device.
- Ask the guest to insert, swipe or tap their card on the payment device. The authorisation window opens and a token is returned.
- Confirm the amount to post and select Post to settle the payment.
Expected result
The payment is processed as a sale and posted in OPERA.
Troubleshooting
A debit card, virtual card or wallet payment fails
The payment method may not support pre-authorisations. Make sure you selected the correct Pay Only payment type. If none exists for that method, ask your OPERA administrator to review the payment type set-up.
The payment device doesn't activate
Make sure the card fields in OPERA are empty — the device is only activated when no card details are entered. Then check that Chip & Pin Device Available is selected for your workstation under Configuration > Setup > Workstations.
