Overview
At check-out in Oracle OPERA v5, you settle the guest's bill through Juno and the Oracle Payment Interface (OPI), either with a card the guest presents on the payment device or with the tokenised card on file. If your property adds a credit card surcharge, use the surcharge method.
Applies to
| Product | Juno Hospitality Suite |
| Integration | Oracle OPERA v5 (on-premise) via Oracle Payment Interface (OPI) |
| Version | OPERA v5 |
| Audience | Front office |
What you'll achieve
After completing these steps, the bill is settled by card, the payment details are updated in OPERA and the guest is checked out.
Before you start
- To use a payment device, the Chip & Pin Device Available check box must be selected for your workstation in OPERA (Configuration > Setup > Workstations). This applies to card-present payments.
- If your property uses OPERA's Automated Credit Card Surcharge feature, the CP (Chip and Pin) payment type does not add the surcharge. Use the surcharge method below instead.
Settle with a card the guest presents
- From the OPERA menu, select Front Desk > In House Guests.
- Search for and open the reservation.
- Select Options > Billing.
- Select the guest room to check out and select Check Out.
- Select OK.
- If payment is due, the total bill amount appears on the payment screen. If the guest wants to pay only part of the bill with this card, enter the amount being paid.
- Set the payment code to CP (Chip and Pin).
- Select the OPERA Payment Widget icon next to the Credit Card Number field.
- Leave the card fields empty and select OK. This activates the payment device.
- Ask the guest to insert, swipe or tap their card on the payment device. The authorisation window opens and a token is returned.
- Confirm the amount to post and select Post to settle the payment.
Settle with a card the guest presents, with credit card surcharge
- From the OPERA menu, select Front Desk > In House Guests.
- Search for and open the reservation.
- Select Options > Billing.
- Select the guest room that requires the payment.
- Select the payment type that matches the guest's card. Don't enter any card details in OPERA.
- Enter the amount.
- Select OK. This activates the payment device.
- Ask the guest to insert, swipe or tap their card on the payment device. Wait for the authorisation window to show that the transaction is approved.
- Select OK.
Settle with the tokenised card on file
- From the OPERA menu, select Front Desk > In House Guests.
- Search for and open the reservation.
- Select Options > Billing.
- Select the guest room to check out and select Check Out.
- Select OK.
- Leave the payment code, card number and expiry date as they are.
- Select Post. Wait for the authorisation window to show that the transaction is approved.
- Select OK.
Expected result
The payment details update in OPERA automatically. When you use the Check Out option and the balance is settled, the guest is checked out.
Troubleshooting
The surcharge wasn't added
The CP (Chip and Pin) payment code doesn't add OPERA's automated credit card surcharge. Use the surcharge method and select the payment type that matches the guest's card.
The payment device doesn't activate
Make sure the card fields in OPERA are empty — the device is only activated when no card details are entered. Then check that Chip & Pin Device Available is selected for your workstation under Configuration > Setup > Workstations.
The transaction is declined
OPERA shows a failed status with a decline response. Declines can be caused by insufficient funds, a card reported lost or stolen, or a lost connection to the bank. Ask the guest for another card. See [INTERNAL LINK OPPORTUNITY: Declined or failed card transactions in Oracle OPERA v5].
