Overview
In Oracle OPERA v5, you can charge a deposit on a reservation before the guest arrives, using the card already on the reservation or a new card. The payment is processed through Juno via the Oracle Payment Interface (OPI) and appears on the guest's reservation.

What you'll achieve
After completing these steps, the deposit is charged and appears on the guest's reservation.
Before you start
- The reservation must already exist in OPERA v5.
- You need OPERA user credentials with permission to post payments.
- To use a payment device, the Chip & Pin Device Available check box must be selected for your workstation in OPERA (Configuration > Setup > Workstations). This applies only when you take a new card on the device.
Take a deposit with the card on the reservation
- From the OPERA menu, select Reservations > Update Reservation.
- Search for and open the reservation.
- Select Options > Deposit/CXL.
- Select Payment.
- Enter your OPERA credentials.
- Enter the deposit amount and select OK.
Take a deposit with a new card
- From the OPERA menu, select Reservations > Update Reservation.
- Search for and open the reservation.
- Select Options > Deposit/CXL.
- Select Payment.
- Select the OPERA Payment Widget icon next to the Credit Card Number field.
- Choose how to capture the card:
- Without a payment device: enter the card details, including the expiry date, and select OK.
- With a payment device: leave the card fields empty and select OK, then follow the prompts on the device.
- When the token is returned, enter the deposit amount and select OK.
Expected result
The deposit is processed and appears on the guest's reservation.
Troubleshooting
The payment device doesn't activate
Make sure the card fields in OPERA are empty — the device is only activated when no card details are entered. Then check that Chip & Pin Device Available is selected for your workstation under Configuration > Setup > Workstations.
The transaction is declined
OPERA shows a failed status with a decline response. Declines can be caused by insufficient funds, a card reported lost or stolen, or a lost connection to the bank. Ask the guest for another card.
