Overview
Oracle OPERA Cloud can guarantee a reservation by reading the guest's card directly through a connected Chip and PIN card terminal, rather than typing the card number in. This is known as a "Card Present" transaction. This article explains how to activate the terminal from a reservation's Payment Instructions screen and capture the card guarantee.

What you'll achieve
After completing these steps, the guest's card will be read by the terminal, a token, card type, expiration date and the last 4 digits of the card will be returned to OPERA Cloud, and the guarantee will be attached to the reservation once saved.
Before you start
- A Chip and PIN card terminal must be connected, with pin pad mapping completed during installation.
- Have the reservation ready to search for.
Operational steps
- From the OPERA Cloud menu, select Bookings, then Reservations, then click Manage Reservation.
- Search for and open the reservation.
- Click I Want To… and select Payment Instructions.
- Click New/Edit Payment Instructions.
- Select the Method of Payment (Chip and Pin)
Activate the terminal and capture the card
- Click Get Token. This triggers the payment device.
- Select a terminal to be activated for the transaction.
- Click Select Terminal.
- A token request is automatically initiated, and the terminal is activated for the guest to swipe their card or present it for a chip read.
- Once the token, card type, expiration date and last 4 digits are returned, the Card Present checkbox is automatically selected.
- Click Save to attach the token to the reservation.
Expected result
The reservation's Payment Instructions now show a token, card type, expiration date and the last 4 digits of the card, with the Card Present checkbox automatically selected — confirming the guarantee was captured directly from the card terminal rather than typed in manually.
Need more help?
If the terminal doesn't activate, or the token isn't returned after the card is presented, contact 934 Support (support@weare934.com) with the reservation number, last 4 digits from the credit card and the date and time you attempted to post the payment. Do not send full card numbers, Cashier PINs, or other login credentials by email or chat.
