What you need before you start taking payments
Your terminal needs a stable internet connection to work. Without one, it can't process payments — so getting this right before go-live saves you problems later.
Juno terminals come in two models: the PAX 920 and the PAX A35. They connect differently, so the setup that works best depends on which one you have.
The short version
- Wired (LAN) is always the most reliable option. If you can run a network cable to your reception desk, use it.
- The PAX A35 connects over LAN. This makes it the more dependable choice for a busy front desk.
- The PAX 920 connects over WiFi or mobile network only — it has no LAN port on its own. If your WiFi drops or mobile signal is weak, the terminal stops working until the connection comes back.
- If you're using a PAX 920 and want a wired connection, use the PAX Docking Station. Once the 920 is placed in the dock, it can connect over LAN instead of relying on WiFi or mobile network.
PAX 920
Per the manufacturer's specifications, the PAX 920 connects to the internet using 4G mobile network or WiFi (2.4GHz, optional 5GHz) — on its own, it has no built-in LAN port.
This means the terminal is only as reliable as your WiFi signal or mobile coverage at the reception desk. If either connection is lost, the terminal cannot process payments until it reconnects.
Before going live, check that:
- WiFi signal strength at the desk is strong and consistent (not just "connected," but stable under regular use)
- If relying on mobile network, coverage at your property is reliable throughout the day
- The terminal isn't positioned somewhere that regularly loses signal (behind metal fixtures, far from the router, in a basement reception area, etc.)
If WiFi or mobile coverage at your reception desk isn't reliable, don't rely on the PAX 920 alone as it is. Use one of the options below instead.

PAX A35
Per the manufacturer's specifications, the PAX A35 supports LAN, WiFi (2.4GHz/5GHz), and Bluetooth, and can be powered over Ethernet. Because it has a native LAN option, it's the more stable choice for a reception desk where a wired connection is available.
Before going live, check that:
- A network point (LAN socket) is available at or near the reception desk
- The network cable run to the terminal is secure and won't get knocked or unplugged during daily use
If a LAN connection is available at your desk, the A35 is the terminal least likely to give you connectivity issues.

Using the PAX 920 with the Docking Station
If you already have PAX 920 terminals and WiFi or mobile coverage at your desk isn't dependable, you don't need to replace the terminal. PAX's charging base accessories for the 920 include LAN-enabled models — the dock adds a wired Ethernet connection that the standalone terminal doesn't have on its own.
When the terminal is placed in a LAN-enabled dock:
- It connects over LAN instead of WiFi or mobile network
- It's no longer dependent on wireless signal strength at the desk
This is the recommended workaround for any reception area where WiFi coverage is patchy or mobile signal is unreliable, and running a LAN cable is possible.

Summary
A terminal that loses its connection can't take payments — so connectivity is the first thing to check when setting up a reception desk, not an afterthought.
- Have a LAN point at reception? Use the PAX A35, or dock a PAX 920.
- No LAN point, and using a PAX 920 standalone? Confirm WiFi or mobile signal is strong and stable at that exact spot before relying on it for live payments.
