Overview
Six PAX payment terminals can be used with the Juno Hospitality Suite through the Wallee payment gateway integration: the PAX A35, A50, A50S, A77, A920 and A920Pro. They differ in form factor, receipt printing, barcode scanning, battery and charging. This article compares the six models and helps you choose the one that fits where the terminal will be used and what it needs to do besides taking a card payment.

What you'll achieve
After reading this article, you can name the PAX terminal that best matches your use case, and you know which features each model has and does not have.
Before you start
- Decide where the terminal will be used: at a fixed counter, or carried to the guest, the table or the room.
- Decide whether it must print receipts itself, scan barcodes or QR codes, and read every card type.
- Note how long a typical shift is. Models with a removable battery allow a battery swap instead of a recharge.
Operational steps
1. Compare the six models
| Terminal | Form factor | Receipt printer | Barcode scanning | Card readers | Battery | Power and charging |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PAX A35 | Fixed, countertop | No | No | Contactless, magnetic stripe, chip | None (wired power) | Power adapter and cable; communication via RS232, USB-A or LAN |
| PAX A50 | Mobile, compact | No | Quick Scan Button listed; no scanner described [934 REVIEW REQUIRED: see note below the table] | Contactless, chip (no magnetic stripe reader) | Fixed | USB-C |
| PAX A50S | Mobile, lightweight | Optional: PAX BP50 Bluetooth printer station | Quick Scan Button listed; no scanner described [934 REVIEW REQUIRED: see note below the table] | Contactless, magnetic stripe, chip | Fixed | USB-C |
| PAX A77 | Mobile, rugged | No | Yes: barcode scanner and Quick Scan Button | Contactless, magnetic stripe, chip | Removable | USB-C |
| PAX A920 | Mobile | Yes, built in | No | Contactless, magnetic stripe, chip | Removable | Charging base L920-BC or micro-USB |
| PAX A920Pro | Mobile, all-rounder | Yes, built in | Yes: barcode scanner and Quick Scan Button | Contactless, magnetic stripe, chip | Removable | Charging base L920-BC or USB-C |
The PAX A50 and PAX A50S manuals list a Quick Scan Button but do not describe a barcode scanner or how scanning works. If scanning is a requirement, choose the PAX A77 or the PAX A920Pro.
All five mobile models (A50, A50S, A77, A920, A920Pro) connect to your network over Wi-Fi. A SIM card for mobile data is optional. The PAX A35 connects to your network through an Ethernet (LAN) cable.
2. Match the terminal to your use case
Use the guidance below as a starting point.
- Front desk, reception or any fixed checkout: PAX A35. It stays in one place, has a Smart PIN pad with a privacy shield, and uses wired power and a wired network connection, so there is no battery to charge. It has no receipt printer and no barcode scanning.
- Simple mobile contactless and chip payments: PAX A50. The most compact mobile model. It reads contactless and chip cards but has no magnetic stripe reader, no receipt printer and no battery you can swap yourself.
- Mobile service with all card types and shared receipt printing: PAX A50S. It reads contactless, magnetic stripe and chip cards. Receipts can be printed on the optional PAX BP50 Bluetooth printer station, which connects to up to four terminals at the same time. This suits poolside, beach or bar service near a shared station.
- Mobile sales with barcode or QR scanning: PAX A77. A rugged terminal with a dedicated barcode scanner and a removable battery, suited to retail or food and beverage operations that scan items as part of the sale and to long shifts. It has no built-in receipt printer.
- Table or room service with an instant printed receipt: PAX A920. A mobile terminal with a built-in receipt printer and a removable battery. It has no barcode scanner.
- Mixed operations that need both printing and scanning: PAX A920Pro. It combines the built-in receipt printer with a barcode scanner on one terminal, for example for a restaurant with a retail corner or banquet service with scanned items.
3. Check the PAX A920 and PAX A920Pro carefully
The PAX A920 and PAX A920Pro are two different devices, not two names for the same hardware. The PAX A920 has no barcode scanner and charges through a micro-USB port. The PAX A920Pro adds the barcode scanner with its Quick Scan Button and charges through a USB-C port. Both use the same charging base (L920-BC).
Expected result
You have shortlisted one PAX terminal that matches your use case. The user manual for each model covers set-up, accepting payments and daily closing.
