Overview
In Oracle OPERA v5, every computer that runs the OPERA application must be registered as a workstation, so that OPERA knows where to print output such as folios and reports. OPERA creates a workstation record automatically the first time a user logs in from a new computer. This article explains how to check, add or edit a workstation.

What you'll achieve
After completing these steps, the workstation is registered in OPERA with its location and connected devices.
Before you start
- You need access to Configuration > Setup > Workstations in OPERA.
- Know the domain and computer name of the workstation, written as DOMAIN\NAME (for example HOTEL\FD01).
- Know the physical location of the workstation (for example Front Desk Left, Credit Controller or Reservations 1).
- Note which devices are attached to the workstation: credit card reader, UPC scanner, Chip and PIN reader or fiscal printer.
- If a user has already logged in to OPERA from this computer, the workstation record may already exist. Check for it first (step 1) to avoid creating a duplicate.
Operational steps
1. Check whether the workstation already exists
- In OPERA, select Configuration > Setup > Workstations. The Workstations screen lists all workstations defined for the property. The workstation you are logged in on is highlighted in light blue.
- To search, enter the name or the first part of the name in Station, or the first part of the location in Description.
- If the workstation is listed, highlight it and select Edit, then continue with step 2. If it is not listed, select New.
2. Enter the workstation details
On the Workstations - New or Workstations - Edit screen, complete the following fields.
- Station: enter the domain and computer name, for example HOTEL\FD01. This name uniquely identifies the computer on the network.
- Description: enter the exact physical location of the workstation, for example Front Desk Left.
3. Save the workstation
- Save the workstation.
Expected result
The workstation appears on the Workstations screen with the Station name and Description you entered.
